Labor Bag - Be sure to pack games, cards, music (CDs or tapes), your favorite snacks or beverages, extra pillows,
socks, paper, pencil, lotion, lip gloss and camera. You may also bring a video camera.
Announcement Necessities - You'll want to share your great news with family and friends.
Remember to bring phone numbers and a prepaid calling card for long distance calls. The postpartum rooms are equipped with Internet connections - perfect for emailing news and baby's first photos from your laptop computer, which you are welcome to bring.
Hospital Stay Necessities - You may find your own gown, robe and slippers more comfortable; however, you are welcome to use ours. Don't forget toiletries and a nursing bra. If your spouse or partner plans to stay overnight with you, that person should bring sleepwear and a change of clothes and toiletries.
Mom's Going-Home Necessities - Comfortable, loose-fitting clothes are best for going home.
You may be tired of them, but your maternity clothes would work well.
Baby's Going-Home Necessities - Your baby will need an outfit (appropriate for the weather) in which to go home. It is a good idea to bring a few T-shirts and receiving blankets to the hospital. Prince William Hospital will provide you with a starter pack of diapers, wipes and baby soap and lotion.
Car Seat - The state of Virginia requires the use of car seats for all children under the age of eight, including newborns. It is a good idea to look for one that is appropriate well in advance of your due date. The National Highway Transportation Safety Administration has information about selecting and installing your car seat at www.nhtsa.gov.
