Department Of Behavioral Medicine
The Department of Behavioral Medicine at Prince William Hospital is dedicated to providing the highest quality inpatient and outpatient mental health and substance abuse treatment. The department is managed in partnership with the Sheppard Pratt Health System, Maryland's largest provider of behavioral healthcare services. For the tenth consecutive year, Sheppard Pratt Health System's flagship psychiatric hospital has been ranked one of the nation's best psychiatric institutions by U.S. News and World Report.
Recently, the PWH Department of Behavioral Medicine was the only hospital-based psychiatric program in the state of Virginia to receive the prestigious Governor's Recognition Award at a ceremony hosted by the Department of Mental Health, Mental Retardation and Substance Abuse Services (DMHMRSAS) in Richmond. The Department of Behavioral Medicine has also been designated as a "Center of Excellence" by MAMSI. Our programs are also registered as a "preferred provider" in the Healthcare Impaired Practitioner Program administered by the Commonwealth of Virginia's Department of Health Professions.
The Department of Behavioral Medicine offers programs and services to meet the mental health and substance abuse treatment needs of adults and adolescents. Approximately $1.3 million in renovations were completed to increase the department's capacity to treat very ill patients in a state-of-the-art therapeutic environment. In addition, aggressive recruitment efforts have resulted in the appointment of a total of 10 salaried psychiatrists. Seven of the 10 psychiatrists are board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
The Center for Psychiatric and Addiction Treatment's 32 bed adult inpatient hospitalization program provides intensive and immediate help when problems are so overwhelming that an individual is not safe at home or able to function without a structured environment. Medical detoxification, electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) and group milieu therapy as well as active psychiatric treatment are offered to adult inpatients. To discuss admission, please call one of our intake coordinators at 703-369-8464.
Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT) is also available to adult outpatients. To schedule an appointment, please call one of our intake coordinators at (703) 369-8055 option1. For more information please click on the links below.
